What needed to change
A site may generate visits and plenty of event counts while still leaving the business unsure how many people made a useful enquiry. A phone-click event, form-start and successful form submission are not interchangeable.
How I worked through it
Defining what to measure
I separate visibility metrics from actions that could indicate commercial intent. Search Console helps explain organic discovery; GA4 and advertising platforms help investigate journeys when configured correctly.
Checking implementation
The practical work covers click tracking, form event testing, duplicate triggers and mobile conversion paths. The difference between a sent event and a verified enquiry is documented rather than assumed.
Connecting measurement to page changes
Analytics is most useful when it suggests a concrete page improvement: clearer phone access, functioning forms or a page that better matches the searcher's need.
What I learned
I would rather have a small set of trustworthy conversion signals than a dashboard that looks impressive but cannot answer a client question.
